Building Bridges Salon Series

Lucy co-hosts the Building Bridges salon series with fellow thought-leaders John Hagel, co-chairman of Center for the Edge and investor Tim Chang, partner at the Mayfield Fund.

Grounded in research on successful movements of social change, these salons bring together movement leaders on the cutting edge of societal transformation with visionaries, investors and experts in the social sciences.

Our goal with these salons is threefold:

1. to create a culture of authentic sharing and emotional support for the leaders of vital modern-day movements who are working tirelessly on the front lines of change

2. To share insights, feedback, resources, and make connections that will help accelerate the impact of the movements around the table and, ultimately, a broader range of movements

3. To interweave the ideas generated across the movements to create a compelling collective narrative and inspired beautiful future

Movement leaders include:

  • Tiffany Shlain: Tech-Shabbat Movement, a movement focused on getting families and individuals to unplug and reconnect. Tiffany is an Emmy-nominated Film-maker, the Founder of the Webby Awards, author of 24/6 & Creative Director of Let it Ripple Film Studio.

  • Gary Wolf: Quantified Self Movement. Gary is a contributing editor at Wired magazine, where he writes regularly about the culture of science and technology. He is also the co-founder, with Wired colleague Kevin Kelly, of The Quantified Self, a blog about "self-knowledge through numbers."

  • Dale Dougherty: Maker Movement. Dale is CEO and Founder of Maker Media and publisher of Make Magazine. He has been called the “godfather of the Maker movement”, having founded both the magazine and the first Maker Faire in 2006. Dale was instrumental in launching the Maker movement which is reshaping science and technology education and creating unprecedented economic opportunity for young people and a renaissance in urban manufacturing.

Other notable participants include

  • Dr. Joon Yun, hedge fund President and founder of several movements including Inclusive Stakeholding and Longevity,

  • Tristan Harris, founder of the Time Well Spent Movement,

  • Kristin Hull, conscious investor and founder of Nia Impact Capital,

  • Howard Rheingold, an American critic, writer, and teacher, known for his specialties on the cultural, social and political implications of modern communication media,

  • Nichol Bradford, co-founder of the Transtech Lab and movement.

Drawing upon our diverse perspectives our overarching objective is to begin weaving a future of collective opportunity and come away energized and inspired with some actionable steps to move ourselves and our society forward. Our hope over time is to cultivate a cell of movement leaders who will actively work with each other to increase the impact of their movements.
